Harrington Historic Preservation Commission

Promoting Restoration, Rejuvenation, & Revitalization

On Nov. 12, 2009, The Harrington City Council approved an ordinance to establish a Harrington Certified Local Government and a 7 member Harrington Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) as an advisory board.

The purpose of the Commission is to provide for the identification, evaluation, and protection of historic resources; raise community awareness; and serve as the city’s primary resource in matters of history, historic planning, and preservation.

Statewide Preservation Plan 2019-2024

The WA State Dept. of Archaeology  & Historic Preservation is currently meeting with stakeholders throughout the State to gather input on the current Statewide Preservation Plan, which will be completed by 2020.

The Harrington Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) is accepting letters of interest for commission members. The purpose of the commission is to provide for the identification, evaluation, and protection of historic resources; raise community awareness; and serve as the city’s primary resource in matters of history, historic planning, and preservation in a manner prescribed in Section 4, Article D, City of Harrington Historic Preservation Ordinance No.467. Commission members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the city council.

Submit a brief letter describing your interest and competence in historic preservation or if you are a professional with experience in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic resources and are selected from the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archeology, cultural anthropology, curation, or related disciplines.
