Community design planning sessions to help attract visitors, new residents and businesses to downtown Harrington

The Harrington Community Design Charrette was a one-day creative planning process where citizens had the opportunity to work with EWU Urban Planning students and professors to create a vision for downtown that will assist with future implementation plans.

Public participation 9:30 am— noon, 1—3 pm, and/or 5—7 pm.

Set up by Planning Team

ALL - Inventory downtown: land use, conditionof structures, historic buildings, traffic, sidewalks and pedestrian space, streets and parking, entrance signage, vacant lots.

Noon - 1:00

1:00 - 3:00

3:00 - 5:00

Lunch break

ALL - Continue inventory

EWU students & professors prepared presentation from inventory gathered.

5:00 - 7:00

All - Informal potluck dinner and introduction by the Mayor. Presentations of maps and photos. A brainstorming session where everyone was encouraged to share all ideas; discuss interesting trends illustrated in the earlier session maps and phtographs; exploration of constraints, opportunities, alternatives and "outside the box" concepts.
